What is the book about?: This book is the latest in author Donna Leon’s popular series set in Venice and featuring police detective Guido Brunetti. In this mystery, Brunetti renews his acquaintance with famous opera star Flavia Petrelli. Brunetti soon learns that someone is stalking Flavia, sending her outrageously expensive gifts and dozens upon dozens of yellow roses in many different cities where she performs. The mystery grows more complex when Flavia takes an interest in a talented young singer. After the singer is brutally attacked, Brunetti begins to suspect that the stalking and the attack are related.

My Review: Although I haven’t read every book in the series, Leon quickly brings the reader up to date with the characters and the setting. The characters have a depth to them:  Brunetti balances work and family, and author Leon gives us warm and amusing insights into both. Brunetti shamelessly manipulates the boss that doesn’t like him and works his connections both within and outside the rather dysfunctional police hierarchy to gather information and solve his cases. I love the setting (Venice) and the characters in this series!
