Suggested Age: Teens, Tweens

What is the book about?: The protagonist of this story is a 10 year old girl named Ada.  Ada lives in London with her mother (Mam) and brother.  Ada was born with a club foot.  Mam is so ashamed of the “ugly” foot that she does not let Ada show herself in public or go to school.  Ada’s only means to see the outside world is through a little window in her one room flat on the third floor.  With the threat of the start of World War II, the children of London are being shipped out of London.  Jamie, Ada’s bother, is allowed to go, but not Ada.  The morning of the evacuation, Ada escapes with her brother to freedom and begins a new adventure.

My Review: This story by Kimbery Brubaker Bradley provided the wonderful adventure of Ada and her brother in finding freedom and love.  Ada went through many hoops to overcome her fears of neglect and lack of love and affection.  My eyes were glued to this story.  I could not put the book down.
