What is the book about?: Jack and Grace seem to be the perfect couple. Recently married, they give elegant, intimate parties at their gorgeous home. Jack is wealthy, and Grace is slim and beautiful. But something’s just not right …

My Review: I picked this book up thinking it would be a discourse on the plight of a battered woman, a character who succumbs to the control of a domineering husband, realizing the danger too late. It is so much more than that. I found myself reading this with a rictus grin on my face, thinking “Oh my gosh, this is terrible — and I’m loving every guilty minute of it!” The book is well-written, taut, and moves along at a good pace. I have suggested it to the library’s Out of the Box Book Club, just because I really, really want to discuss this book with someone who has also read it. The only problem I had was this: the book was written in first person, so the audience doesn’t get ALL the information. There was a character that is vital to the book (Millie), and I wanted to find out her reaction to the climactic scene in the book … but the author didn’t reveal that, because first-person didn’t allow for that reveal. It’s a small concern, however, and I do recommend the book whole-heartedly.
