FDL New Building Progress Update

June 24, 2011

At the May 2011 meeting, the library board approved floor plans for the new library building. We hope to go to bid this summer and to begin construction in the fall. The board and staff have dedicated many hours to designing a state-of-the-art facility for the community. We understand that the new building will make a strong and positive statement for East Peoria, and we want to be sure to get it right. The approved layout creates an open and inviting atmosphere and includes a small coffee area, a fireplace, and many windows for natural light and views of green spaces. This project has been years in the making, and we can't wait to start construction!

On Thursday, September 3, 2009, members of the community came out to show their support for the EP 2010 project. It was a beautiful afternoon. The ceremonial dirt moving has  begun. Since the dirt is so firmly packed on the site, there was no way a shovel was going to get through it. Instead, dirt was moved. Your head librarian even got in on the action.  Things are moving and not just the dirt.
