History:
The Fondulac District Library was established through
the efforts of the East Peoria Woman’s Club in June 1935. Within
a few months’ time, it outgrew its original location and was
moved to two rooms over City Hall, then located on the northwest corner
of Main and Washington Streets. By 1939, more books had been
added to the collection, circulation was up, and the rooms were crowded.
To reflect the actual financial support, the name
of the library was changed to Fondulac Township Library on June 1,
1962. In 1973, Fondulac Township voters approved conversion of
the township library to a district library and the name was changed
again, to Fondulac District Library.
After several moves, the library was relocated to
its current location at 140 East Washington Street.
