Speck Air Quality Monitors

speck10_1024x1024Speck air quality monitors are available for checkout at Fondulac District Library. Speck monitors use an infrared sensor to detect particulate indoor air pollution. The device assists users with identifying pollution sources within the home and detecting when air pollution from outside is entering the house. Simply plug in the device and allow it to gather a baseline for your indoor area. Then, experiment with potential solutions, such as installing an air purifier or opening a window, to see how the quality of the air changes.

Wi-Fi-capabilities allow air quality data to be uploaded for analysis and distribution via the Internet if the user chooses to do so. However, the monitors do not require the Internet or access to a computer to function, and no personal information is required of users.

Speck Lending Policy

Borrowers must present a valid library card in order to check out a Speck from Fondulac District Library. Speck devices are not available for transit to other libraries or for interlibrary loan.

Borrowers may borrow only one (1) Speck at a time.

Borrowers are responsible for the safe-keeping and return of these items to the library in good working order and assume liability for the equipment while it is in their care. The borrower is responsible for damaged and/or missing pieces of the lent items. The patron agrees to cover the cost of damage and/or replacement costs, as determined by the library.

The library does its best to provide clean, secure, and fully functional equipment, but is not responsible for unforeseen hardware or software failure.

The lending period is twenty-one (21) days. Speck devices must be returned directly to an FDL staff member in the Adult Services Department. Speck devices cannot be renewed and may not be returned to other libraries or returned to any book drop.

The Speck device package is not considered returned until all items associated with it, including (but not limited to) the USB power adapter and cable, have been returned to the library in the good condition. If any items are missing upon return, the library reserves the right to refuse acceptance of the equipment until all items are returned. This refusal does not waive any late fees.

There is a $1.00 per day late fee per Speck device.

The library reserves the right to deny the use of Speck devices to any borrower who repeatedly loses Speck devices or returns equipment late.

Borrowers agree to abide by the library policy and procedures.

Pending board approval.
