The nominees for the 90th annual Academy Awards were announced this week.  As a big fan of film, I get very into the awards season.  My husband and I try to watch as many “big” films of the year as we can and try to predict the winners of the major categories. This year we were able to see several of the contenders for Best Picture.  One that really stood out to me was Get Out.  This film is not only nominated for Best Picture but also snagged nominations for Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya) and Best Director (Jordan Peele).  Also high on my list was The Shape of Water, nominated for 13 categories on Tuesday morning. With an awesome visual effects, Guillermo del Torro’s film seems familiar but also shifts into strange territory at the same time.

For a complete listing of award nominees visit the Academy’s Oscar website.   Quite a few of the nominees are still in theaters, but many are already on DVD.  That means they are owned by area libraries.  Watch them before the Oscars air on March 4th.  Keep in mind, many of these are on high demand, so you may need to get on a hold list.  We will let you know as soon as they are available.  The following is a list of movies you can checkout through our library system:

Get Out, Dunkirk, Baby Driver, Blade Runner: 2049, Beauty and the Beast, Logan, The Big Sick, The Boss Baby, Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Kong: Skull Island, Victoria & Abdul, War for the Planet of the Apes
