Wi-Fi Hotspots

Hotspots allow patrons to borrow free, mobile Internet access for use at home or while traveling. Featuring a compact and lightweight design, these devices have a robust battery life and allow connection of multiple devices to the Internet. A generous donation from the Friends of FDL during the annual Friends of Libraries week covers the first year of this pilot project. The library’s collection includes 10 wi-fi hotspots for patron use.

These devices may be checked out for a two week period, and there is a limit of one device per adult cardholder.

Fondulac District Library Wi-Fi Hot Spot Lending Policy

Borrowers present a valid adult library card and valid state-issued photo ID in order to check out a wi-fi hotspot from Fondulac District Library.  Borrowers must be 18 years of age or older to check out a wi-fi hotspot player from Fondulac District Library. Fondulac District Library wi-fi hotspots are not available for transit to other libraries or for interlibrary loan.

Borrowers must sign the Wi-Fi Hotspot Loan Agreement.  Borrowers may borrow only one wi-fi hotspot at a time.

Borrowers are responsible for the safe-keeping and return of these items to the library in good working order and assume liability for the equipment while it is in their care.  The borrower is responsible for damaged and/or missing pieces of the package. The patron agrees to cover the cost of damage and/or replacement costs, as determined by the library.

Borrowers may not change or delete any account information or settings associated with the wi-fi hotspot equipment or accounts.

The library does its best to provide clean, secure, and fully functional equipment, but is not responsible for unforeseen hardware or software failure.

The lending period is fourteen (14) days. wi-fi hotspots may be renewed if no other patron has placed a hold. Wi-fi hotspots must be returned directly to an FDL staff member. Fondulac District Library wi-fi hotspots may not be returned in internal or external book drops or to other libraries.

The wi-fi hotspot package is not considered returned until all items associated with it (including, but not limited to, carrying case, cords, and instructions) have been returned to the library in the good condition. If any items are missing upon return, the library reserves the right to refuse acceptance of the equipment until all items are returned. This refusal does not waive any late fees.

There is a $1.00 per day late fee per wi-fi hotspot with a maximum fine of $10. Borrowers will be charged a $5.00 fee for returns to a drop box, in addition to the replacement cost for any damage incurred.

The library reserves the right to deny the use of library wi-fi hotspots to any borrower who repeatedly loses wi-fi hotspot equipment or returns equipment late or not according to this policy.

The library is not responsible for any liability, damages or expense resulting from use or misuse of the device, connection of the device to other electronic devices, or data loss resulting from use of device. Any use of the device for illegal purposes, unauthorized copying of copyright-protected material in any format, or transmission of threatening, harassing, defamatory or obscene materials is strictly prohibited. The borrower is responsible for the use of the device by any other parties for the length of the loan.

Borrowers agree to abide by the library policy and procedures.
