Getting started with genealogy research can be a daunting task. Luckily Fondulac District Library provides access to two of the most popular genealogy resources on the web. These are great places to start your research.

Ancestry Library Edition is a database that has a collection of census information, passenger lists, vital records, and more that can be used for genealogy research.  Ancestry can be used at Fondulac District Library.  Access one of our public computers or bring a device and connect to our wireless internet in order to use this collection.  Many of the records found can be viewed, emailed, or printed for safe keeping.

Heritage Quest Online is another resource that you can use for genealogy research.  Heritage Quest offers many of the same collections as Ancestry but has more of a North American focus when it comes to historical documents as it includes records from the Revolutionary War, Freedman’s Bank, and U.S Indian Census.  Both Ancestry and Heritage provide links to collections from other countries as well if you wish to search more deeply into your relatives’ countries of origin.   Access Heritage Quest Online at the library or remotely with your Fondulac District Library card number.

Just go to the “Research” tab on our website and select “Online Research Resources” to find these databases.

If you are interested in a tutorial on using these collections, the library is having a program on November 13th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. called “Getting Started With Genealogy.”   Sign up here if you are interested. You can also call the library at 309-699-3917 to register or get more information.
