Kids' Book Highlight: The Fire-Breathing Duckling

Start Date

Book Title: The Fire-Breathing Duckling

Author: Frank Cammuso

  • This graphic novel is great for young and beginning readers! It is a wonderful introduction for anyone who may be new to the graphic novel format, or are not quite ready for the length of other graphic novels.
  • This is a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic The Ugly Duckling - but the ugly duckling in this story is actually a baby dragon! Nort realizes that he does not look like his duckling siblings and sets out on a mission to find out who, and what, he really is.
  • This graphic novel shows kids that it is okay to be different from those around you and to embrace your own uniqueness.
  • It also has a great message of accepting those that are different from you. All of the animals in the story are kind to Nort and try to help him figure out what kind of duckling he might be.
  • The illustrations are bright and colorful, and kids might enjoy the cute depictions of all the animal friends in this story!
