New Book Highlights: Youth Services April 2025

America’s Dreaming by Bob McKinnon

America’s Dreaming is perfect for school-aged children. The story follows a young child as they navigate their first day of school. They are anxious about being a new student, but are given some books to read about inspirational people. Reading these books helps the student overcome their fears and they become more confident. This book focuses on themes of diversity and inclusion. It also has a beautiful story about fitting in and being accepted.

 

Counting Winter by Nancy White Carlstrom

This book presents the reader with an informative and colorful look at how animals live during the winter. Along with being informative, it is also a perfect way to practice basic counting. Counting Winter has unique illustrations throughout the book. These illustrations are a combination of scratchboard and watercolor art. The depth of the illustrations and descriptive language make the book so interesting. It inspires readers to learn more about nature and to appreciate the outdoors. 

 

We Want Our Books by Jake Alexander

In We Want Our Books, two sisters discover that their local library is being closed by another business. They decide to protest in support of their library. Throughout the book, they brainstorm ways to help keep the library open. The power of teamwork and determination are important to the characters. The illustrations are colorful and full of fun details.
This book focuses on the importance of community. It also shines a light on how beneficial libraries are to society.
