Title: How to Talk to Your Succulent
Author: Zoe Persico
Ages: 8-12 years old
Highlights:
Adara is an 11 year old girl going through a difficult situation. Her mom passed away, she is moving to a new state to live with her grandmother, and her dad is not talking to her about either. To make everything even weirder, she just learned that she can talk to plants and suspects that her mom could, too. All she wants is to be able to talk with her mom about it, but she finds that she has trouble talking with anyone (her dad, her new friend, even her plants).
This is a great graphic novel for middle schoolers who are going through a big change. It discusses how to work through your emotions, how to recognize that others may work through their emotions differently than you, and how to communicate better. It also touches on how to take care of plants and even gives instructions on how to propagate succulents.
This graphic novel is great for readers who like the Witches of Brooklyn series, Raina Telgemeier, or the PAWS series.
